“5G + Beidou” Weaves a Robust “Smart Network” for Geological Disaster Prevention and Control
According to reports, Hubei Mobile has leveraged 5G and computer vision technologies to significantly enhance the accuracy and real-time performance of its existing monitoring systems. Field personnel can now access high-definition images and videos at any time, substantially reducing the false-alarm rate. In addition, by establishing a unified data-processing platform, the company has achieved centralized processing of multi-source GNSS data, thereby resolving longstanding challenges such as difficulties in monitoring data timeliness and ensuring data quality. Furthermore, the visualization platform employs laser scanning and oblique photography to comprehensively capture on-site imagery of potential hazard locations, providing intuitive and comprehensive visual support for risk identification and analysis.

“The most significant advancement is that the system now achieves ‘comprehensive visibility, precise assessment, and rapid response,’” said a representative from Hubei Mobile. By leveraging China Mobile’s nationwide high-precision positioning network, post-processing high-accuracy differential positioning algorithms, and AI-based deformation recognition models, the system has improved the accuracy of geological hazard deformation monitoring from the traditional 5 millimeters to 1 millimeter and reduced the solution time from the previous 2 minutes to just 30 seconds. Since its launch, the system has detected seven valid deformation signals and successfully issued early warnings for two potential landslide events, thereby gaining valuable time to evacuate at-risk residents in advance.
Hubei Province boasts a complex geological environment, with the majestic mountains of western Hubei harboring the constant threat of flash floods and landslides. Huanggang, situated at the southern foot of the Dabie Mountains, faces immense pressure in preventing and mitigating geological disasters. To strengthen the “protective network” for monitoring such hazards, Hubei Mobile has proactively fulfilled its responsibilities as a state-owned enterprise by leveraging technological innovation and conducting public awareness campaigns, thereby building a robust safety barrier to safeguard people’s lives and property.
