Case | On the night of August 8, during a torrential rainstorm, a slope suddenly developed a hazardous situation! SPEPC once again successfully closed the loop on alarm handling!
In the early hours of August 8, a railway section in a mountainous area was hit by sustained heavy rainfall overnight. Equipment model 53729 fully captured the entire process of the slope’s transition from stability to failure, with the dip angle rapidly increasing from 3.048° to 88.506°. The system automatically generated and disseminated eight alerts in a tiered manner. On-site nighttime verification confirmed that the slope’s surface had experienced sliding and collapse; thanks to the timely warning, a potential landslide‑induced accident was successfully averted.

Since the start of the flood season this year, South China and Southwest China have experienced multiple rounds of prolonged, intense rainfall, with precipitation in many areas surpassing historical records for the same period.
Repeated rainfall infiltration leads to saturation of the soil and a sharp reduction in its shear strength, bringing slope failures—such as landslides, debris flows, and rockfalls—into a period of heightened occurrence.
In the early hours of August 8, the monitoring equipment on the right-side slope of a certain railway section triggered an alert.
The integrated tilt monitor (No. 53729) deployed by SPEPC fully recorded the entire process—from slope stability to abrupt change and finally to failure—within less than an hour.

Trend Chart
In advance
Over the past week, the equipment’s three-axis data remained stable overall, with no abnormal fluctuations observed.
Blue Alert
The inclination has risen to 3.048°, Blue alert triggered 。
Yellow Alert
The dip angle is in Within 5 minutes It rose to 5.689°, then reached 6.494°.
A yellow alert has been issued, and the data curve has begun to rise noticeably.
Orange Alert
The inclination angle exceeded 10°, reaching 10.199°.
An orange alert has been triggered, The slope has entered the accelerated instability phase. 。
Red Alert
The inclination angle has surged to 18.761°, triggering a red alert.
System determination The slope undergoes irreversible rapid sliding. 。
Red Alert
The inclination has risen to 58.597°, The equipment toppled dramatically along with the slope. 。
Red Alert
The dip angle reaches 88.506°, and the equipment is nearly lying horizontally.
From 03:13 to 04:05—less than an hour—the slope’s dip angle increased from 3° to 88°, fully illustrating the evolution of rapid slope failure triggered by sustained rainfall infiltration.
On-site verification

Following an on-site inspection conducted overnight, the following circumstances have been confirmed:
● Obvious cracking has occurred in the soil on the slope.
● The surface soil has slipped and collapsed.
● Vegetation on the slope surface deforms in response to soil displacement.
● Persistent rainfall in the area has led to runoff that erodes exposed soil.
The monitoring data are consistent with the on-site conditions, and the inspection personnel have confirmed that the equipment has toppled along with the slope.
Early-warning closed loop

This alert generated a total of 8 tiered warning messages and 3 warning text messages, starting from… Blue To Red Progressive and hierarchical.
All alerts have been confirmed and archived on the platform.
SPEPC has once again successfully achieved a closed-loop process for accident early warning:

Case Summary

Integrated Tilt Monitor
Suitable for geological hazard monitoring, slope stability monitoring along railways and highways, safety monitoring in mining and energy facilities, and structural health monitoring of bridges, tunnels, reservoirs, dams, and other critical infrastructure.
Equipped with a high-precision MEMS sensor chip and employing Kalman filtering.
Automated acquisition of three-axis tilt angle, acceleration, and elevation displacement data.
High protection rating ensures stable operation even under heavy 24/7 rainfall.
It addresses the monitoring blind spots of traditional manual inspections under adverse weather conditions.

SPEPC Online Monitoring Platform
An online management system that integrates data collection, analytical assessment, and monitoring and early warning.
System preset in advance Blue 、 Yellow 、 Orange 、 Red Multi-level alert thresholds
In the event of an anomaly, alerts are propagated hierarchically, and a signal is issued as soon as deformation initiation occurs.
Precisely deliver to the accident site and complete pre‑emptive disaster‑response and rescue reconnaissance.
This bought time for on-site verification and response.

SPEPC Special Duty Contingency Plan
Upon the occurrence of an early warning, SPEPC immediately activates the contingency plan.
Frequency of encrypted data reads, real-time aggregation of risk‑point information.
Technical personnel simultaneously interpret the monitoring curves and assist on-site in assessing the nature and severity of potential hazards.
Provide technical and data support for on-site traceability and incident handling.

SPEPC full-cycle operations and maintenance
Complete operations and maintenance services tailored to the specific geological hazard characteristics of different regions.
Targeting Disaster-prone areas in South and Southwest China experience frequent geological hazards during the flood season. In line with its characteristics, SPEPC will continue to enhance end-to-end operational support:
Increase the frequency of backend encryption inspections and promptly notify customers of any data anomalies.
Regular calibration, completion of lightning protection inspections, and waterproofing maintenance.
Refining the distinction between rainfall-induced interference and genuine deformation
Improve “Early Warning—Analysis and Assessment—Synchronization—Response—Closed Loop” Standardized process
Providing long-term protection with every successful alert.

Another verification

In this case, the SPEPC monitoring system has once again successfully completed a real-world verification of early warning under conditions of sustained heavy rainfall.
From precisely capturing millimeter-level tilt changes, to multi-level early warnings being pushed out step by step, and further to technical personnel providing round-the-clock backend monitoring and real-time synchronized analysis—SPEPC has “Hardware + Platform + Services” Its integrated capabilities have once again secured valuable response time for customers before a disaster strikes.
