Background Introduction
Railway manned level crossings are critical nodes at grade intersections between railways and roads, and their safety directly affects the safe operation of trains as well as the lives and property of vehicles and pedestrians.
Traditionally, level crossing management has relied on manual visual monitoring, manual operation of barrier gates, and wireless train dispatch notifications, leading to issues such as slow response times, operator fatigue, and incomplete information recording.
With the acceleration of railway speeds and the increasing density of train traffic, there is an urgent need to implement intelligent management systems to enhance level-crossing safety and operational efficiency.
Solution Overview
This solution is a system that integrates Train approach warning, automatic barrier control, video surveillance, violation capture, and operation logging. An integrated intelligent management system for manned level crossings.
The system deploys track sensors or train‑approach detection units based on the BeiDou satellite navigation system and 4G technology to continuously monitor train position and speed, automatically triggering audible and visual alarms and displaying prompts on LED screens, while simultaneously activating automatic barrier closure.
A management terminal is installed in the level crossing booth, displaying train approach information, level crossing status, and real-time video, while supporting manual intervention and voice broadcasting.
Meanwhile, the system logs the time of each train passage, barrier‑gate operations, and any violations, generating an electronic record that provides data support for level‑crossing safety management.
