Nanchang Railway Bureau, Yingtan Track Maintenance Section: Intelligent Level Crossing System Project
Project Background
Within the jurisdiction of the Yingtan Track Maintenance Section of the Nanchang Railway Bureau, numerous railway crossings are staffed. Daily operations at these crossings face multiple management challenges: non-standardized work procedures for crossing guards, lapses in inter‑machine communication and response, and non‑standard emergency handling of faults; traditional paper‑based shift handovers and inspection records are prone to loss or tampering, making management traceability difficult; meanwhile, issues such as guard fatigue and drowsiness, unauthorized departures from duty, and improperly closed barriers continuously increase the risk of external‑railway collisions. To standardize crossing operations, strengthen safety oversight of on‑duty personnel, and implement the requirements for digital upgrading of railway crossings, the Yingtan Track Maintenance Section, in collaboration with Guilin SPEPC, has deployed a manned crossing operation control management system, establishing a pilot program for intelligent crossing management.
Equipment Deployment
-
Level Crossing Control and Management Integrated Unit: Equipped with powerful data-processing capabilities and a wide range of interface configurations, it comprehensively meets the integrated management requirements for automated level-crossing control, status monitoring, data communication, and equipment interlocking.
-
Active axle-counting sensor: accurately detects the approach and arrival of trains.
-
Barrier Gate Status Monitor: Monitors the gate’s open/close status in real time.
-
Speaker: The core component of the railway crossing safety voice‑prompting system, it enhances safety management in crossing areas through clear audio alerts.
Implementation Effectiveness
The system standardizes the entire process of level crossing guard duty, intelligently monitors personnel and equipment, and enables paperless record-keeping to achieve digital closed-loop management of manned level crossings.
