Kunming Railway Bureau Qujing Train Operations Section Train Dispatching Room Personnel Vital Signs Monitoring Project


Project Background

China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co., Ltd. Qujing Railway Section oversees 704 kilometers of track, including the Shanghai–Kunming Line and the Panxi Line, as well as 49 stations. Train dispatchers must remain highly alert around the clock. Traditional video surveillance can only monitor external behavior, failing to reveal personnel’s internal physiological states, making it difficult to manage risks such as night-shift fatigue and leaving one’s post in real time. By the end of 2025, Guilin Spepc Technology, leveraging Non-contact vital signs monitoring technology and Intelligent Early Warning Platform Successfully provided support to the Kunming Railway Bureau.

Monitoring Equipment and Solutions

  • Core product : SPEPC's self-developed SPG-01 Personnel Vital Signs Monitor Based on UWB ultra-wideband radar technology, the device can penetrate clothing to continuously monitor respiratory rate (accuracy: 98%, ±3 bpm), heart rate (accuracy: 90%, ±5 bpm), body motion, and bed‑in/bed‑out (on‑duty) status. With no cameras, it can be mounted on the ceiling or wall, ensuring privacy while operating effectively in the complex electromagnetic environment of a vehicle cab.

  • Data transmission : The device passes through 4G-specific IoT SIM card Transmit vital sign data back to in real time SPEPC Railway Health Management Cloud Platform , supports independent deployment on the railway intranet, ensuring data security.

  • Platform Features The platform allows users to customize monitoring thresholds (e.g., prolonged absence from the workstation, abnormal heart rate, abnormal respiratory rate), and automatically triggers alerts when anomalies are detected. Platform pop-ups, SMS messages, and app notifications Level-3 alerts are escalated to the on-duty cadre.

Implementation Effectiveness

Following the commissioning of the equipment, automated, real-time monitoring of on-duty personnel in the train‑control room has been achieved. Management personnel can remotely access the platform to track staff physiological parameters and attendance status, enabling timely intervention upon detection of any abnormalities. This project represents one of the first pilot initiatives by the Kunming Railway Bureau to apply UWB radar‑based physiological‑monitoring technology to the management of on‑duty conditions in train‑control rooms.
