Wuzhou Slope-Cutting Housing Construction Visual Intelligent Deformation Monitoring Project

Project Background

At a residential construction site on a cut slope in the Wuzhou region of Guangxi, villagers excavated at the base of the slope to build homes, creating a steep rear slope. The slope consists of weathered rock and soil, and during the rainy season, localized landslides occur frequently, posing a serious threat to the safety of the houses and their occupants. Conventional manual inspections are unable to provide real-time monitoring of slope deformation, necessitating the establishment of an automated monitoring and early-warning system.

Monitoring equipment

A visual intelligent deformation monitoring instrument is installed at a fixed location on the roof of the monitoring site, powered by grid electricity and transmitting data via 4G. A total of 16 passive infrared targets are deployed on the slope behind the building, covering the mid‑ and upper‑section of the slope where critical deformation zones are located. The device features an integrated temperature‑control system that enables real-time acquisition of horizontal and vertical displacement data from each target. The platform provides displacement and target‑loss alarms and supports remote access to live on‑site images.

Implementation Effectiveness

During continuous system operation, the platform generates real-time displacement curves—both horizontal and vertical—for 16 measurement points, along with equipment‑operating temperature control curves. Management personnel can monitor the trend of displacement at each target at any time; when displacement exceeds a preset threshold, an alarm is automatically triggered. If a target falls due to slope failure, the system detects its loss and issues an alert. The platform’s alarm center supports multiple displacement‑alert levels, with distinct threshold values configurable for each level, providing data support for early identification of landslide hazards and timely emergency response.
